Krisna Saravanamuttu is an associate at Rudnicki & Company. He defends people charged with criminal offences. No case is too minor or too serious: Krisna works tirelessly to secure the best result for every client.
Krisna specializes in helping clients whose rights have been violated by police. He is an experienced organizer and activist, award-winning academic researcher, and most importantly, has his own lived experience of over-policing and systemic discrimination. Krisna puts this experience to work to find remedies for breaches of his clients’ Charter rights, in and out of the courtroom.
Krisna is a Tamil refugee who grew up in Toronto Community Housing. A graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, he completed his articles at one of Canada's most prominent criminal defence firms. During his legal studies, he was a student worker in the Housing Rights Division of Parkdale Community Legal Services. He fought vigorously to preserve the tenancy of clients facing eviction for alleged criminal activity.
With deep roots in social and economic justice movements, Krisna has worked as a community organizer for nearly two decades. He believes our communities can wield the law to help tackle economic inequality, poverty, and state violence.
Krisna holds a Master’s Degree in Socio-Legal Studies and was won several awards for his academic research. As a graduate student, Krisna worked with the Ontario Human Rights Commission to develop policies against anti-Black racism and racial profiling. Krisna has drafted submissions to the United Nations Special Advisory Committee on War Crimes in Sri Lanka and worked on reports to confront systemic racism in our colleges and universities.
Krisna has written extensively on many issues, including housing justice, prisoners' rights, and paid sick days for frontline workers during the pandemic. His work has appeared in outlets like the Toronto Star and Now Magazine. He has appeared on programs like The National on CBC and The Agenda on TVO and quoted in news outlets like Al Jazeera and CNN.
Outside of law, Krisna is an amateur Muay Thai fighter, competing in tournaments across North America.
