Job description:
We are seeking an articling student to support our trial and appellate practice for the 2025-2026 term. Your responsibilities will include:
Researching and writing focused memoranda on discrete legal issues;
Reviewing, organizing, and commenting on disclosure;
Appearing in provincial court on behalf of the firm’s clients;
Supporting counsel in oral argument at trial and on appeal;
Supporting administrative staff with transcript and exhibit collection and appeal book assembly; and
Other tasks as assigned.
You should come with strong research and writing skills and a demonstrated interest in criminal law. You should be a critical thinker who sees the practice of law as a means of achieving systemic change while helping individual clients. You should enjoy solving tough problems and be eager to support the work of a small but energetic legal team. Over the course of the summer, we will help you channel these talents and values into a solid foundation of practical skills to start your legal career. The successful applicant will be:
Currently enrolled in a Canadian JD program or equivalent;
Highly organized and motivated;
An independent worker capable of setting their own goals and tracking their own tasks;

A talented writer and editor; and
An adept legal researcher.

Compensation:
This is a full-time position. Compensation is $1000/week. The firm will pay the Law Society of Ontario’s articling program fee. You will be included in the firm’s benefits plan. You will be given ten paid personal days that can be taken for any reason, plus two paid weeks off during our annual end-of-year break.
